Piya Baptista is a sustainability specialist with 20-plus years of experience with businesses, development finance institutions and nonprofits. At Corporate Citizenship, a sustainability consulting firm, Piya advises companies on sustainability strategy, social impact, including human rights, and reporting. Her experience spans health care, food and agriculture, technology, financial services, and general manufacturing. Prior to Corporate Citizenship, Piya worked for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to advance sustainability reporting in North America, including leading a multi-stakeholder initiative to redefine how companies approach health and wellbeing. Her career experience includes addressing global economic development challenges through The World Bank, and its private sector investment arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC). At IFC, Piya built understanding of commercially viable “inclusive business solutions” that integrate low-income populations into value chains as employees, suppliers, distributors, retailers, and customers. Piya started her career at Ashoka: Innovators for the Public where she advanced the work of social entrepreneurs globally. Piya has authored several articles and publications, including as a former non-resident Research Fellow for the Corporate Responsibility Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School. She received an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and a B.A. in Economics from St. Xavier’s College in India.
