American Forests believes forests are instrumental to addressing two critical issues of our time: slowing climate change and advancing social equity. They also deliver essential benefits for people, water and wildlife. Since our founding in 1875, we have been a pathfinder for creating healthy and resilient forests in cities and large landscapes from coast to coast. For example, we championed creation of the U.S. Forest Service, persuaded Congress to provide stable funding for fighting and preventing forest fires, and advocated for passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes historic investments in forests as climate solutions. We advance our mission through forestry innovation, place-based partnerships to plant and restore forests, and movement building.
