Masters' Student
Yale
Shimul Bijoor is a first-year master of environmental management candidate at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Prior to Yale, she worked as a researcher with a coastal and marine conservation non-profit in India, where she studied the governance and management of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. She spent her time in the field speaking with fishermen, government officials, tourists, and other residents of the islands to understand their relationships with marine spaces, and how they developed and interacted with the existing systems of managing resources in MPAs. As such, she is particularly interested in exploring methods of financing and implementing conservation efforts that recognize livelihoods as an integral aspect of ecosystem conservation.
