She is the author of Mirage: Florida and the Vanishing Water of the Eastern U.S. and Blue Revolution: Unmaking America’s Water Crisis. Her new book, Rain: A Natural and Cultural History, will be published in April 2015.

Water is the most essential utility delivered to us each day, meeting our drinking and sanitation needs and more, from fire protection to irrigation. Incongruously, it is also the resource we value least.
