Jimmy Samartzis has made a lifelong commitment to work at the intersection of the private and public sectors as a catalyst to create meaningful, positive change and impact in our global community. Over the last 20 years, Jimmy has held positions in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors spanning many industries including aviation, environment, high-energy particle physics, renewable energy, national security, and healthcare.
Over the course of his career, Jimmy has helped advance firsts across many industries, from alternative energy, to customer experience innovation, to national cyber security initiatives, to a United Nations-adopted global CO2 emissions agreement. He and his teams have received global recognition for innovation and change, corporate responsibility, renewable energy, and sustainability.
Jimmy currently serves as a Director on the Board of Directors for the Fermi Research Alliance that has management responsibility for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the global leader in particle physics and mega-science to uncover mysteries of matter, energy, space and time. He previously served as a senior executive with United Airlines, one of the world’s largest airlines serving 150 million customers, including as Vice President of Catering Operations, Vice President of Customer Experience, Senior Managing Director for Global Environmental Affairs and Sustainability, and Managing Director for Corporate Affairs and Corporate Responsibility.
Earlier in his career, Jimmy served in a leadership role at the international consultancy of Booz Allen Hamilton and served in the administration of U.S. President William J. Clinton.
Jimmy is active in his community and serves on the Boards of Directors for several nonprofits including Urban Initiatives and Junior Achievement of Chicago. Jimmy holds a MBA from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, a Master of Government from John Hopkins University, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
