With more than a decade of experience as a sustainability journalist and strategic communicator, Mike Hower is committed to helping organizations address the climate crisis and other environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues through the power of story. As managing director, sustainability & social impact, Mike leads partnership development in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, and provides strategic counsel for thinkPARALLAX clients such as International Paper, Fossil Group and Boar’s Head. He also leads the thinkPARALLAX Perspectives speaker series in San Francisco, which brings together business and nonprofit leaders to discuss sustainability issues around communication, technology, food and more. Mike also is a regulator contributor to GreenBiz where he writes about the latest trends in sustainable business and policy. Previously, Mike was senior writer for GreenBiz, Sustainable Brands and Triple Pundit where he covered everything from clean energy to climate policy and the circular economy. He also served as a subject matter expert at Edelman, where he worked with The North Face, HP, and Kashi on sustainability communications campaigns. Mike has led clean energy communications efforts at Pacific Gas & Electric and cleantech startups. Passionate about advancing forward-thinking climate policy in the United States, he has lobbied on Capitol Hill with Environmental Defense Fund and other organizations. Mike holds a Masters in Public Affairs from The George Washington University and a Bachelors in Political Science and History from the University of California, Davis. A firm believer that you must "know the world if you wish to save the world," Mike is an avid traveler and adventurer. He spent a year living and volunteering in a community in Bogotá, Colombia and has visited more than 31 countries across 6 continents.
