Richard Mahony pioneered the concept of risk communications to help leaders and their organizations achieve ambitious goals and manage unexpected challenges.

Richard Mahony pioneered the concept of risk communications to help leaders and their organizations achieve ambitious goals and manage unexpected challenges. A former investment banker, he works with clients to grow their business, transform their operations, complete a vital transaction or manage a crisis. He excels in situations where the stakes are high and experience and creativity count.

Richard began his career as an investment banker at J.P. Morgan and later held senior communications and marketing roles in New York and London, where he served on Morgan’s Operating Committee. As head of the firm’s worldwide media relations group, he led the launch of RiskMetrics and CreditMetrics, Morgan’s groundbreaking value-at-risk methodologies. He has been a senior executive at leading communications firms and has twice won the annual award from PRWeek magazine for the industry’s top financial/investor relations program.

An experienced crisis manager, Richard has helped organizations manage critical situations arising from financial, regulatory or operational events. He advised Cantor Fitzgerald following the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, and Reserve Management after the firm’ s money market fund “broke the buck” after the collapse of Lehman Brothers. Richard has worked with public companies on investor strategies, helping senior executives address complex financial issues and improve valuation through effective communication. He also counsels companies on ESG and sustainability issues, with a focus on climate-related financial risks following the release of the influential TCFD report in 2017.
