New Restoration Economy
Sofia Faruqi is manager for the New Restoration Economy, which aims to identify the business models, investment mechanisms and policy changes needed to transform disparate restoration projects into a viable industry. Sofia works closely with the Nature Conservancy, WRI’s anchor partner on this work. The New Restoration Economy focuses on Brazil, Kenya and the United States.
Prior to joining WRI, Sofia was a portfolio manager at Loring, Wolcott & Coolidge, an investment management firm in Boston. Earlier in her career, Sofia worked as an equity analyst at Passport Capital; an equity research associate at the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System Pension Fund; and an investment banking analyst at J.P. Morgan. She has won multiple investment awards and her articles have been published in the Wall Street Journal, Quartz and Huffington Post.
Sofia holds a bachelor's degree in economics and Arabic from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania. She is a CFA charterholder.
Sofia lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband, Erik. She enjoys scuba diving, traveling and writing in her free time. Also, she recently learned to bike and can be found making slow and unsteady progress on biking trails over the weekends.
