Steve Starbuck

Steve Starbuck is the Leader of Ernst & Young LLP's Americas Climate Change and Sustainability Services. In this role Steve oversees the development and implementation of climate change and sustainability competencies throughout the US, Canada, and Latin America extending to clients through the firm's core services: assurance, advisory, tax and transaction advisory services. In his 30 plus years with Ernst & Young LLP, Steve has held numerous leadership positions, including the Director of State and Local Tax for our National Tax Department.
Previously, Steve coordinated the Americas Climate Change and Sustainability Tax services, including federal and state credits for investments in renewable energy, tax credit monetization, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), capital expenditures to become more energy efficient and the production of energy efficient products and services.
Steve has served as the National Director (US) of State and Local Tax Services, supervising the firm's national network of more than 500 state and local tax professionals. He has also held the position of Tax Managing Partner of Ernst & Young's Ohio Valley and Carolinas areas. In this position, he built the premier state and local tax advisory practice in the three-state area. He spent his first 17 years with the firm in Columbus, Ohio, where he served multistate retail and manufacturing clients.
Steve is a member of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA)'s U.S. Working Group committee and he helps manage the firm's relationships with environmental organizations, such as The World Business Council of Sustainable Development, the Corporate EcoForum and the US Green Building Council. Steve received a B.B.A. in Accounting from Eastern Kentucky University and a Masters in Tax from Capital University Law School. He is a certified public accountant licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina and Ohio.
