The surprising value of linking business with conservation

M. Sanjayan, executive vice president and senior scientist of Conservation International, talks about storytelling about conservation, ecology, climate and nature within the context of business at GreenBiz 16.

He describes the phenomenon of "green muting," where large companies play down their sustainable business practices in fear of a blowback from the media or consumers. Sanjayan argues that this leaves the value of storytelling on the table, and that strategic partnerships can change this.

"There's a real need for big companies to bring the consumer to the level [of sustainability knowledge] that they are at. ... That is where the non-profit world can actually help," said Sanjayan.
