Can sustainability be a 'grand strategy' for the nation?

December 18, 2016

Mark "Puck" Mykleby, a former Marine and co-director at the Strategic Innovation Lab, spoke at VERGE Hawaii 2016 about his recent book The New Grand Strategy: Restoring America's Prosperity, Security, and Sustainability in the 21st Century.

Mykleby praised Hawaii's ambitious pledge to power all electricity by renewable power by 2045, and thought that there are lessons for all of us in the state's actions.

"They’re not waiting on anyone else," said Mykleby. "The challenge of our generation and the unsustainable nature of the global system is going to require those kinds of individual efforts, as well as that kind of individual courage and grit just to get out in from of the problem set."
