How does a city like Los Angeles buy tech?

November 9, 2016

Mark Anthony Thomas, director of the Mayor’s Operations Innovation Team for the city of Los Angeles (or the "O-Team"), sat down with GreenBiz Studio at VERGE 16

His office explores innovations in the procurement process of city services, including real estate, buildings and workers compensation for the city government. Much of the work involves creating ways to procure cutting-edge technologies installed and running in a large city.

Thomas offered advice for tech vendors that may be interested in serving a city. "You definitely have to be patient. There’s definitely a national movement for fixing tech procurement right now… but it’s something we recently all wanted to push," said Thomas.
