Daniel Lee, executive director of the Levi Strauss Foundation, joined veteran journalist Marc Gunther for a conversation about how the foundation has worked on social justice issues for well over a century. In those years, the foundation has largely focused its philanthropic efforts on protecting the marginalized.
"We were the first foundation to address the AIDs epidemic, and we have continued to focus on it long after it's faded from media headlines," Lee said. "We’ve raised our voices on issues that few other companies have had the courage to address such as LGBTQ rights. And it’s because we practice values-based philanthropy."
