Ideally, good energy policy would strike the happy medium of providing energy that is at scale, affordable and environmentally sustainable. The term "trilemma" has emerged to encompass the challenge presented by these three goals.
The new World Energy Trilemma report surveys the performance of almost 130 countries against the trilemma. Joan McNaughton, executive chair of the World Energy Trilemma at the World Energy Council, described the key takeaways of the new report in a GreenBiz Studio interview at the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) conference in San Francisco.
"The message I would give to policymakers is that this is a great tool to use to learn from others, to try new approaches which may have worked elsewhere, and to ensure that when you implement your policies, that you get it right," said McNaughton.
