Why Eastman is excited about the circular economy in fashion

September 30, 2020

Eastman Chemical Company is excited about the circular economy, said Ruth Farrell, marketing director of textiles and fibers at the company. One of the ways Eastman is acting on this excitement is through its Naia cellulosic yarn, which is sourced from wood pulp and uses a closed loop manufacturing process.

“What we see with Naia is an opportunity for sustainable fashion that can be accessible to everyone,” Farrell said. “It’s such a versatile fiber and it really gives designers and brands out there such a versatility of choice.”

Farrell also noted that Eastman is collaborating with some major fashion brands to scale its efforts with Naia Renew, which is made from 60 percent wood pulp and 40 percent recycled waste plastics.

Heather Clancy, editorial director at GreenBiz, interviewed Ruth Farrell, marketing director of textiles and fibers at Eastman, during Circularity 20, which took place August 25-27, 2020. View archived videos from the conference here: http://grn.bz/MWn.
