Why Sealed Air is tackling food waste for the climate

January 17, 2017

Nearly 40 percent of the food we grow and produce is not consumed. This has the obvious implications of inefficiency in light of global hunger. But because the wasted food is often taken to the landfill where it releases greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane into the air, there are sizable climate impacts as well.

"Food waste hasn’t been recognized for the magnitude and importance that it has on climate change," said Ron Cotterman, vice president of sustainability at Sealed Air. He joined GreenBiz Studio at GreenBiz 16 to talk about changes we can all make to cut down on food waste, including innovations in packaging to make food last longer without the use of preservatives.
