WWF's Erin Simon on helping global food brands reduce their plastics footprints

July 31, 2019

The World Wildlife Fund launched "ReSource: Plastics" in May, working with companies like Coca-Cola, Starbucks and McDonald's to curb unnecessary plastics consuption and protect the ocean. Erin Simon, the organization's director of PSE and sustainability R&D, believes businesses are powerful levers to accelerate the transition from a "take, make, waste"model to a circular system. "We’ve been trying to help companies to take these big commitments that they have been setting around their plastic footprint, and take them to an action in the way that’s meaningful and measurable," she said.
