In conversation: John Elkington

May 14, 2020

For more than 30 years, John Elkington has been a global authority on corporate responsibility and sustainable capitalism, a bestselling author and serial entrepreneur. In the mid 1980s he founded the consultancy and think tank, SustainAbility, long before it was a business buzzword, and has counseled companies and government leaders around the world. During his storied career, he has written 19 books. Along the way, he coined the terms green growth, green consumer, and triple bottom line.

Now, on the occasion of his 20th book, Green Swans: The Coming Boom in Regenerative Capitalism, he joins GreenBiz Executive Editor Joel Makower for an intimate, one-on-one conversation about the next stage of sustainable business — and of capitalism. In his new book, Elkington highlights how businesses can be catalysts for systems change, drawing on firsthand experience from boardrooms around the world. He’ll also discuss how the “ugly ducklings” of today’s business world have the potential to become tomorrow’s worldchanging Green Swans.
