Principal Engineer of Environmental & Sustainability
Yanina (pronounced “Sha-nina”) Barrera is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has a PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering from Harvard University and a BS in Chemical Engineering from UC-Irvine. Her dissertation focused on improving estimates of greenhouse gas emissions in cities using Lidar technology, satellite data, and atmospheric transport computer models. Dr. Barrera is now part of Amgen’s Environment & Sustainability team housed in Engineering. She led Amgen through the evaluation process to receive SBTi-approved science based targets, implemented the first ever Scope 3 carbon strategy, and steered the launch of electric vehicle programs in the USA, EU, and JAPAC. Dr. Barrera recently expanded into a new role, advancing data analytics and digital tools in environmental sustainability.
